Many people would rather have DeSantis as the Republican nominee than Trump

The announcement of Donald Trump’s candidacy for president of the United States this week marked the beginning of the election cycle for the year 2024. People in the community are now debating whether or not they want the former president to continue to head the Republican Party as a result of his revelation.

Due to the fact that an incumbent president who is running for reelection does not face any opponents in the primary election for his or her party, Donald Trump was able to sail through the primaries for his party in the year 2020. This time around, he is very likely to be opposed by a number of other Republicans who are interested in taking his place as the spokesperson for the GOP.

According to a recent article published in the Washington Post, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is the most likely candidate for the Republican nomination for president, followed by Donald Trump, former Vice President Mike Pence, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Mike Pompeo, and Florida Governor Rick Scott.

Other individuals who have expressed interest in running for president include Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, Governor Josh Hawley of Missouri, Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas, Representative Liz Cheney of Wyoming, Governor Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas, Governor Kristi Noem of South Dakota, Governor Larry Hogan of Maryland, Governor Greg Abbot of Texas, Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, and Donald Trump Jr.

The results of the midterm elections that took place earlier this month provided evidence that President Trump has lost his advantage inside the Republican Party, as was stated by Dell Barnes, the vice chair of the Democratic Party in Cherokee County.

“If the Republican Party want to once again become an effective political force, I believe that much effort will need to be expended during the upcoming election cycle. The Democratic Party is proving itself to be more and more of a people’s party, and things are shifting in the way that people in the United States engage in political activity “he stated.

The chairwoman of the Democratic Party in Cherokee County, Yolette Ross, said that after watching Trump’s announcement, she was unimpressed.

“It lacked the typical fiery rhetoric that is typically associated with his rallies, and brimstone and hellfire were noticeably absent. It’s almost as if he didn’t really put his heart into it, isn’t it? “asked Ross.

She is of the opinion that President Trump made his statement too soon, given that many voters are not yet concentrating on the elections in 2024.

“Because of this, I have reason to assume that the only reason he made the announcement was to divert attention from his legal issues and, hopefully, to escape being indicted. The candidacy of Donald Trump cannot be taken seriously. He persists in denying the results of the election in 2020, and he takes great pleasure in splintering the nation along partisan lines with his vitriolic language “— I quote her.

Ross criticized a number of prominent politicians for their statements in which they questioned the results of the 2020 election. He stated that statements such as this are detrimental to democracy.

“If I were forced to choose an opponent from the Republican Party, I would go with Adam Kinzinger. The fact that he is willing to serve on the committee that will meet on January 6 suggests that he is more concerned with doing what is right for the sake of the country than with doing what is politically expedient. In either case, the Republican Party ought to be able to come up with a candidate that is an improvement than Donald Trump “added Ross.

Both a voicemail and a series of text messages were left for the leadership of the Republican Party in Cherokee County through phone and text, but no response had been received as of the time of publication. A voice mail was left for Steve Hall, the chair of the Republican Party in Cherokee County, asking him about the future of the local party as well as who he believed voters of Cherokee County will vote for. Before our deadline, he did not provide a response.

During a Saturday Facebook Forum, users of the Daily Press were asked to share their opinions on the Republican Party and their predictions for the election in 2024. Robby Tiffee gave their endorsement to the candidacy of DeSantis and Tulsi Gabbard after receiving a recommendation from Stephani Kaufman Bayhylle.

“If Tulsi Gabbard had made it through the Democratic National Convention debates, you can bet your bottom dollar that I would have cast my vote for her. She is incredible, and a ticket with DeSantis and Gabbard would be priceless, “added Tiffee.

Gabbard was a Democrat and served Hawaii in Congress. In 2020, she ran for president of the United States. She was a former member of the Democratic Party but is now an independent. Her status as the first Samoan-American and Hindu member of Congress brought her a lot of attention.

Eric Swanson thinks that Donald Trump has the best chance of winning the nominee for the Republican Party.

“I have a sneaking suspicion that Trump will still secure the nomination because he still commands the devotion of a sufficient number of Republicans. Because DeSantis is a potential rival who could outshine Trump — and we all know that Trump can’t stand to be eclipsed by anyone — I don’t see him putting DeSantis on the ticket as a running mate. I just don’t see it happening “Swanson, who stated that he would like to see a moderate Republican win the nomination, said that he would like to see this.

Additionally, Shane Morrison suggested that the Republicans back DeSantis in their race.

“If the Republican Party still has any semblance of common sense, they would shove Trump to the side and throw their support behind DeSantis. His “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) camp and Democrats are two factions who are rooting for Trump to become the Republican nominee.

They should have learned from the midterm elections that people are growing tired of Trump’s foolishness because practically everyone he supported lost in those elections “said Morrison.

Dawnya Madina is of the opinion that it doesn’t matter if Donald Trump gets the nomination or not; he might still be a threat to the Republican Party in the future.

“It is possible that Donald Trump would enter the general election as a candidate for a third party in order to divide the electorate if he is unsuccessful in the primaries. Trump has become the most powerful tool in the Democrats’ arsenal “said Madina.

When readers of the Daily Press were polled online about whether or not they think Donald Trump will end up as the nominee of the Republican party, 37% of respondents said they didn’t think he would, 28% said they were certain he wouldn’t, 27% said they were certain he would, 7% said they thought it was likely, and 1% said they weren’t sure.
