Cast/crew worried about Tom Cruise stunts on M:I – Dead Reckoning

Tom Cruise is no stranger to doing his own stunts. Whether he’s scaling the tallest building in the world or clinging to the side of military planes or holding his breath for six minutes, he remains one of the most impressive talents in Hollywood. And while we know these are dangerous acts, we don’t often think that he could die doing any of it – come on, this is Tom Cruise! But that’s not necessarily the feeling when you’re watching it go down on the set.

Speaking with Deadline at the Rome premiere of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Simon Pegg – who has been playing IMF techy Benji Dunn since 2006’s Mission: Impossible III – said there is genuine concern over if Tom Cruise will even survive his stunts. “There’s always a sense that, you know, one day, something might go wrong we might lose Tom, you know…Anytime there’s a big stunt, we all have that sense of, you know, fear, but he always pulls it off.”

As for Pegg himself? He’s probably safe from cast and crew concern, as, “You know, I’m lucky because Benji just kind of stays behind the computer and he does his thing. Tom is jumping off cliffs on a motorbike he’s hanging his you know, hanging off trains — it’s genuinely dangerous stuff.”

But it’s not just the Mission: Impossible movies that Tom Cruise has pulled off insane stunts for, undergoing more than 60 takes for the anti-gravity crash in The Mummy, stepping into a real F-18 for Top Gun: Maverick and, most dangerously, sliding across a hardwood floor in socks in Risky Business – the only of the lot that we’ve all tried to imitate. OK, just give him an honorary Best Stunts Oscar already!

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is earning major praise ahead of its wide release next month, with many saying it ranks among the best in the franchise. Dead Reckoning Part Two will be released on June 28th, 2024 and will certainly offer another highlight reel for Tom Cruise’s stunts.
