BIR confirms the sending of a written request to Marcos family members regarding P203 billion tax liability

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) sent a written request for members of the Marcos family on December 20, 2021 to cover the estate tax liability of P203 billion.

BIR Commission Caesar Dulay made the confirmation in reply to a request for confirmation sent directly to the commissioners through Ernest Ramel, who is the president of the presidential candidate as well as Manila city mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso’s political party Aksyon Demokratiko.

“The BIR did send a written request to the Marcos descendants on December 02 2021, regarding their tax obligations,” Dulay said in the letter of 14 March, but it was not made available for the public through Ramel the following Wednesday.

It is possible to recall that Ramel requested the BIR to ask that the Marcos family to settle their tax obligations estimated at P203.819 billion.

In response to this, however, Rodriguez declared it was estimated that P200 million estate tax on the Marcos family is still unsolved as the properties that are linked to the case are currently in litigation. He also noted that the BIR as well as the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) “have reached an agreement with the BIR to wait for the outcome of the case prior to collecting any money.”

Rodriguez’s assertion was also challenged by Ramel Ramel sent a letter to PCGG chair John Agbayani to verify the assertion by Rodriguez his statement that PCGG and BIR reached an agreement.

If there was a deal, Ramel said Agbayani should divulge the details, as this is a “matter of public interest.” In other words, Ramel added, “this is yet another evidence that the Marcos Jr. camp Marcos Jr. has again been lying as they have always done with regard to so many aspects of their family members, including their illegally acquired fortune.”

On his own, Domagoso said he is satisfied that BIR required his Marcos family pay their estate tax.

“I’m delighted that Commissioner Dulay issued an demand letter for them to pay. Sana makuha natin (I would like to see the money,) he said in an ambush interview held in Silay City, Negros Occidental.

In the event of being elected, Domagoso said that the administration will ensure his P203-B Marcos tax obligation will be paid under his administration.
