Broncos duo cop bans after sin bin carnage

UPDATE: Broncos duo Brianna Clark and Jasmine Fogavini have both been hit with one-match bans after they were sin binned on Saturday afternoon.

Parramatta will rue missed opportunities in their loss to the Broncos, after the latter was left with 11 women when both players left the field in a chaotic two minutes.

Clark was first to be binned in the 50th minute for a shoulder charge before Jasmine Fogavini left a minute later due to a hip drop. The score at the time was 16-6 with the Broncos ultimately holding on for a 22-12 victory.

Fogavini was handed a one-match ban for a hip drop tackle after landing on the leg of Reuben Cherrington. Clark was handed the same punishment for a grade two careless high tackle. Both risk a two-match ban if they don’t plead guilty.

NRL great Andrew Johns grimaced at the vision of Fogavini’s hip drop tackle.

“I hate looking at them, so dangerous,” he said on Nine’s coverage.

“I just can’t remember these tackles ever being in the game except the last couple of years. Whether there was no attention to them, obviously there’s been a big change in tackle technique now with the wrestling but that’s a bad one.”

Parramatta managed to make the Broncos pay for being two players short, with Monique Donovan going over immediately after the second sin bin.

Brisbane’s defence held out though and with a full compliment of players they managed to score through Mariah Denman in the 65th minute to seal a 22-12 win.

After making the grand final last season, the Eels horror season has continued with the loss their fourth-straight.
