“But what is the fruit that comes from the Spirit is joy, love and peace. It is also forbearance, forgiveness and kindness, as well as goodwill, faithfulness, self-control and gentleness. For these things, there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22,23)
“I’ll believe it when I see it.”
Do you find yourself thinking like this?
It’s easy to fall into a mindset of doubt and the skepticism. It’s a fractured world and may be through difficult situations that lead us to be distrustful of the world around us.
This is why the virtue of faithfulness, which is a fruit of the Spirit can be an extremely difficult trait to master.
Faithfulness is based on a sense where trust is built and loyalty is maintained. Hebrews 11:1 state “Now faith is a confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
As a Christian as a Christian, it is essential to be loyal to God. It’s not enough to just trust in Him however, it is a different matter to be committed to God. If we’re truly loyal to God these influences how we live our lives. For instance, we are capable of being loyal to our family and friends here on Earth and love our fellow human beings.
Faithfulness demands that we submit our lives to God. It is born out of a sense of knowing that we’re in dire need of salvation, and that God is in charge over our life.
Proverbs 19:21 states, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” We are called to be loyal to God as He is faithful to us.
In the Bible the tale of Abraham highlights the importance of being faithful. Abraham along with his partner Sarah struggled to believe in God and learn the importance of being faithful when they listened to Him.
For instance, Abraham and Sarah waited for a long time to God to keep His promise of giving them the gift of a son. Because of her lack belief, Sarah insisted upon Hagar her maid giving the birth of her child. This led to conflicts and suffering. But, when Abraham and Sarah believed on God, Sarah was able to bear Isaac despite having passed the gestational age.
The story of Abraham illustrates how God favors those who remain loyal and trust His plans.
How can we increase our faith?
We can improve our faith by developing an intimate connection with Christ. If we’re faithful to Him and abide by His instructions, it will show through in our daily lives.
My request to you is to Take a look at the ways that you show your devotion to God. Are there areas that are blocking your devotion? Which areas in your daily life have not given to Him? By spending time in prayer and asking God to help you make these areas evident to you to help Him grow you in your steadfastness.
