WWE superstar Asuka, a four-time world champion, has recently expressed feelings of danger stemming from fan interactions that have crossed personal boundaries. The Japanese professional wrestler, whose real name is Kanako Urai, took to her X account on Wednesday to share her concerns about these encounters, which she described as having “romantic” advances.
“I’ve been feeling in danger recently,” Asuka stated on X. “I’ve already consulted the police. At this rate, even if fans approach me at the airport or in the city, I will feel the possibility that something might happen, and it will scare me, making me unable to respond.”
Although Asuka did not detail any specific incidents, she made it clear that she wishes for fans to refrain from developing “romantic feelings” toward her. “It’s meaningless – 100% pointless,” she emphasized in a separate post. “There is absolutely no possibility for others to interfere in my private life.”
This alarming situation is not isolated to Asuka. Other WWE stars have faced similar challenges with overzealous fans. Notably, fellow wrestler Sonya Deville experienced a terrifying incident when an obsessed fan traveled from South Carolina to Tampa Bay, Florida, with the intent to abduct her. The individual, Phillip Thomas, was found with a knife, zip ties, duct tape, and mace when he broke into her home. In 2023, he accepted a plea deal that resulted in a 15-year prison sentence for charges including attempted kidnapping and aggravated stalking.
Asuka, 43, has been sidelined from wrestling since May 2024 due to a knee injury that required surgery. Known as the longest-reigning NXT women’s champion, she has also won prestigious titles such as the Royal Rumble and Money in the Bank since her career began in 2015.
The increasing concern regarding fan interactions highlights the importance of respecting personal boundaries, especially for public figures like Asuka. As the wrestling community continues to grow, it is crucial for fans to understand the impact of their actions on the lives of their favorite athletes.
