Man Facing Charges After Cargo Ship Crashes into Front Garden

A cargo ship ran aground in the front garden of a home in Trondheim, Norway, while the homeowner was asleep inside. This unusual incident occurred on Thursday and involved a 135-meter-long vessel that came alarmingly close to crashing into Johan Helberg’s house.

Authorities have charged a Ukrainian man in his 30s who was the second officer on the ship at the time of the accident. He was one of 16 crew members aboard and has been charged with negligent navigation. Like the homeowner, the officer was also asleep when the ship ran aground.

According to police, the officer on watch admitted during questioning that he fell asleep while on duty. This lapse in attention allowed the vessel to drift off course and collide with the garden.

Police are looking into whether the crew followed proper working and resting hour regulations. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the incident, and efforts are underway to relocate the stranded ship.
