Democratic Party Removes Post After Facing Backlash for Blaming Trump for Rising Grocery Prices

The Democratic Party’s official account on X faced backlash after a recent post backfired. On Thursday night, they shared a chart showing grocery prices hitting record highs in 2025, captioned “Trump’s America.” However, users quickly pointed out that the price spikes occurred during President Joe Biden’s administration, not Donald Trump’s.

The post was intended to criticize Trump but instead highlighted the rising grocery costs under Biden. The chart indicated significant increases in prices for produce, meat, cheese, dairy, and alcohol while Biden was in office. Since Trump returned to office in January, there has only been a slight rise in prices.

Following the backlash, the Democratic Party deleted the tweet. The White House’s Rapid Response account reacted by emphasizing that the data showed grocery prices surged under Biden. Peter Hasson, an editor at the Washington Free Beacon, remarked that the Democrats’ attempt to blame Trump backfired spectacularly.

Critics on social media pointed out the irony of the Democrats using a chart that illustrated inflation during Biden’s term to attack Trump. Ian Miller from Outkick noted the absurdity of the situation, while Kyle Smith from the Wall Street Journal highlighted the lack of inflation during Trump’s presidency compared to the significant rise under Biden.

During Biden’s time in office, inflation peaked at 9.1% in June 2022, and food costs soared by 22%. In contrast, during Trump’s first six months back in office, food prices only increased by about 1%. Reports from the Consumer Price Index during Trump’s second term showed lower inflation than expected, although a recent report noted a slight increase in year-over-year inflation due to rising prices in food, shelter, and energy.

The White House continues to assert that economic data supports their view that Trump is stabilizing inflation, countering claims that tariffs are driving up prices.
