This request came during a post on Truth Social, where Trump expressed frustration over the lack of transparency regarding the vaccine’s effectiveness.
Trump claimed that Pfizer had shown him impressive results related to its vaccine but had not made those findings available to the public. His demand for clarity follows a turbulent week for the CDC, which saw the firing of its director, Susan Monarez, after a contentious disagreement with Health and Human Services Director Robert F. Kennedy Jr. regarding vaccine approvals.
In his post, Trump emphasized the need for drug companies to justify their COVID-19 treatments, stating, “Many people think they are a miracle that saved millions of lives. Others disagree!” He expressed a desire for answers, urging Pfizer to disclose its data to help resolve the ongoing debate over the vaccine’s success.
Trump referenced the success of Operation Warp Speed, the initiative he launched to expedite vaccine development during his presidency. He questioned whether the operation was as effective as many believe and insisted that the public deserves to know the truth.
The call for transparency comes amid significant changes at the CDC. Following Monarez’s dismissal, Kennedy appointed Jim O’Neil as the acting director. Monarez was let go after she did not agree to withdraw her approval for certain age groups to receive the COVID vaccine, leading to protests from several senior CDC officials who resigned in response.
Meanwhile, the FDA has introduced new guidelines for the COVID vaccine. It has approved the vaccine for individuals aged 65 and older while limiting access for those between 5 and 64 years old. Kennedy announced that the previous emergency use authorizations for the vaccines, which had supported broad mandates during the Biden administration, are now rescinded. The FDA has granted marketing authorization for vaccines from Moderna, Pfizer, and Novavax for higher-risk groups.
