Gunman Opens Fire at South Carolina Bar, Leaving 4 Dead and 20 Injured

Authorities are investigating a tragic shooting that occurred early Sunday morning at Willie’s Bar and Grill on St. Helena Island, South Carolina. The incident took place during a high school reunion party, where a gunman opened fire, resulting in the deaths of four people and injuring 20 others.

The shooting erupted around 1:00 a.m., sending hundreds of attendees into a panic as they sought safety in nearby businesses. When deputies from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office arrived, they found numerous victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Among the injured, four individuals are reported to be in critical condition.

The mass shooting reportedly took place outside the bar, where alumni from Battery Creek High School were gathered. St. Helena Island is situated approximately 50 miles north of Savannah, Georgia.

As the investigation unfolds, the sheriff’s office is looking into potential suspects but has not disclosed any information about them. They are also waiting to inform the families of the victims before releasing their names. The sheriff’s office expressed condolences, stating, “This is a tragic and difficult incident for everyone. We ask for your patience as we continue to investigate this incident. Our thoughts are with all of the victims and their loved ones.”

Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace, who represents the area, shared her heartbreak over the event. She urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

This incident follows another recent shooting at a North Carolina waterfront bar, where three people were killed and several others injured. In that case, the shooter attacked from a boat before fleeing the scene. A 40-year-old Marine veteran has since been arrested and charged in connection with that shooting.

As communities grapple with the aftermath of these violent events, the search for answers and justice continues.
