A tragic incident unfolded in Saint Matthews, South Carolina, where a man named Jordan Dove lost his life after triggering a deadly shotgun booby trap set up by a family member. The 34-year-old was fatally wounded by a shotgun blast upon entering his uncle’s vacant home. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Dove succumbed to his injuries later that day.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office revealed that the residence was suspected to be booby trapped. Law enforcement officers cautiously approached the property and discovered a shotgun rigged to go off at the back door. Further investigation uncovered that the front door was barricaded with no one else inside the house.
Authorities are aiming to press murder charges against Alfonzo Brown, the homeowner and Dove’s uncle, who is currently incarcerated in Maryland for an unrelated shooting incident in January. They also plan to add a charge for possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Sheriff Thomas Summers emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating that the house appeared to be targeted at law enforcement, highlighting the risks faced by officers on a daily basis.
The sheriff’s department suspects that the booby trap was intended to harm law enforcement personnel. While the exact timing of when the trap was set up remains unclear, investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the incident.
