U.S. Initiates Airstrikes Against Houthi Forces in Yemen

President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he has ordered military strikes against the Houthi group in Yemen. This decision comes as the Houthis have been involved in ongoing attacks on shipping in the Red Sea, which has disrupted global trade.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump declared, “Today, I have ordered the United States Military to launch decisive and powerful Military action against the Houthi terrorists in Yemen.” He described the Houthis as engaging in a campaign of piracy and violence against American and other international vessels.

The Houthis, who have been supported by Iran, confirmed that strikes occurred in their territory, including in Sanaa, Yemen’s capital. These attacks began in December 2023, as the Houthis showed support for Hamas during its conflict with Israel.

Earlier this year, the Biden administration had removed the Houthis from the State Department’s list of terrorist organizations. However, in January, an executive action by Trump reversed this, officially redesignating the group as terrorists.

Saudi Arabia has been leading a coalition against the Houthis since 2015, aiming to support Yemen’s internationally recognized government. The situation remains tense as military actions escalate in the region.

In addition to the strikes in Yemen, Trump also announced the killing of an ISIS leader in Iraq during a separate military operation. This series of actions highlights the ongoing U.S. involvement in conflicts in the Middle East, as tensions continue to rise.
