The New York Giants are gearing up for the 2025 NFL Draft, and it looks like they have their eyes on two standout players. With the third overall pick, the team is considering edge rusher Abdul Carter and versatile athlete Travis Hunter. Both prospects have impressed scouts, but they come with some concerns.
Abdul Carter has faced health issues recently. At the NFL scouting combine in February, he was found to have a stress reaction in his right foot, which kept him from participating in drills. He also has a lingering shoulder injury that first occurred during the Fiesta Bowl against Boise State. Despite these setbacks, Giants General Manager Joe Schoen reported that Carter is feeling good and actively working out at the team facility.
On the other hand, Travis Hunter is creating a buzz for his unique skill set. The 2024 Heisman Trophy winner is highly regarded as both the top cornerback and wide receiver in this draft. Hunter is adamant about playing both positions in the NFL, stating that he would refuse to play if a team asked him to focus on just one. Initially, the Giants viewed him primarily as a cornerback with the potential to contribute as a receiver. However, as they evaluate his talents, they are considering how he could thrive in both roles.
Schoen expressed excitement about Hunter’s abilities, noting his impressive ball skills and route-running. The Giants currently have a strong receiver corps with Darius Slayton, Malik Nabers, and Wan’Dale Robinson, as well as a solid secondary featuring Paulson Adebo and Deonte Banks. This depth gives the team some flexibility in how they might utilize Hunter.
While Schoen acknowledges the physical demands of playing both ways, he is more focused on Hunter’s mental readiness to handle the complexities of NFL offenses and defenses. The Giants may need to make a tough decision if the Cleveland Browns select Hunter with the second pick, but for now, they are weighing their options carefully.
