Mikal Bridges had a tough start in Game 4, but he found his rhythm just in time to help the New York Knicks secure a narrow 94-93 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Sunday at Little Caesars Arena. After struggling through the first three quarters with only two points and hitting just 1-of-10 shots, Bridges stepped up in the fourth quarter when it mattered most.
With the Knicks trailing by 11 points, Bridges hit two crucial three-pointers that sparked an 8-0 run. His first shot cut the deficit to 79-71, followed by another that brought the team within three points at 79-76. He finished the game with eight points, which proved vital in a tightly contested matchup.
Bridges credited his teammates for keeping him focused and encouraging him to keep shooting despite his earlier struggles. "I know I’m fine and I know it’s gonna come, but they just kept telling me ‘keep shooting it,’” he said. His teammates, including Cam Payne, Tyler Kolek, Josh Hart, and Jalen Brunson, played a significant role in boosting his confidence throughout the game.
Payne, who has not been as impactful on the court recently, still found a way to motivate Bridges. He joked about using some colorful language to keep Bridges engaged. "Today was a little bit more [talking], just because some of his shots were going in and out,” Payne said. “They were good looks and he normally makes them.”
Despite his shooting woes, Bridges was a standout on defense. In the closing moments of the game, he played a key role in forcing a turnover from Pistons star Cade Cunningham, which helped the Knicks hold onto their slim lead. Coach Tom Thibodeau praised Bridges for his defensive skills, noting his ability to disrupt plays and create turnovers with his length and anticipation.
This win was crucial for the Knicks as they continue their playoff journey. The team showed resilience and teamwork, with Bridges’ late-game heroics highlighting the importance of support and trust among teammates.
