While promoting his new memoir, "My Next Breath," the 54-year-old actor shared that he believes he briefly died after being run over by a snowplow at his home in Nevada on New Year’s Day. Renner was trying to save his nephew, who was in danger from the machine.
In his memoir, Renner describes lying on the ice after the accident, feeling a profound sense of peace as his heart rate slowed down to a dangerously low 18 beats per minute. He reflected on his experience, saying, “I could see my lifetime. I could see everything all at once.” He described a feeling of timelessness, where he experienced a serene energy and a connection to everything around him.
After what he perceived as a moment of death, Renner felt a force urging him to return to his body. He survived the accident but suffered extensive injuries, breaking over 30 bones. Despite the severity of his injuries, Renner expressed that writing about the incident has been a cathartic process for him. He noted that it serves as a reminder of the strength of the human spirit and the body’s ability to heal.
In a recent interview, Renner mentioned that he is not haunted by the memories of the accident. Instead, he sees it as part of his life and maintains a positive outlook on his new reality.
