Anton Appointed to Head Technical Discussions with Iran

Michael Anton, the director of policy planning at the State Department, has been chosen to lead the U.S. technical team in negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program. Anton’s team will include about a dozen officials as they work on this critical issue.

An anonymous administration official praised Anton, saying he is well-suited for the role due to his experience and intelligence. The official emphasized that Anton will help ensure that President Trump’s agenda regarding Iran is upheld.

The first round of technical discussions is set to take place this weekend in Rome. This meeting will precede further talks next week between White House special envoy Steve Witkoff and Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Aragachi. Anton was also involved in the recent discussions between Witkoff and Aragachi in Rome.

Anton gained recognition after the 2016 election for his influential writings supporting Trump. He wrote under a pseudonym and is known for pieces like “The Flight 93 Election.” His selection for this important role reflects his significant standing within the administration and his commitment to its policies.
