Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and his family had a frightening experience when an arsonist set fire to the governor’s mansion while they were asleep. The incident occurred around 2 AM, waking the family to knocks on their door from the Pennsylvania State Police, who were responding to the fire.
Just hours before the fire, Governor Shapiro had shared a photo of his family celebrating the first night of Passover. Fortunately, they were all safe, as they were sleeping in a different part of the house from where the fire broke out. The fire caused significant damage to the residence but thankfully did not result in any injuries.
The Harrisburg Bureau of Fire quickly responded to the scene and worked to extinguish the flames. Governor Shapiro expressed gratitude that no one was harmed and praised the police for their swift evacuation of his family. The Pennsylvania State Police have labeled the incident as arson and are actively investigating the case. They are offering a $10,000 reward for any tips that could lead to the arrest of the suspect.
The governor’s residence, located at 2035 North Front Street, has been home to eight governors and their families since 1968. This alarming event highlights the vulnerabilities that even public figures face in their personal lives. As a prominent Democratic figure, Shapiro is often mentioned as a potential candidate for the 2028 presidential election, having been considered for the vice-presidential spot in 2024.
The investigation into the arson continues, with police urging anyone with information to come forward.
