A primary school in Berlin was evacuated on Friday after reports of children experiencing breathing difficulties due to an irritant gas. The incident took place at around 9 a.m. at the Miriam Makeba Elementary School located in the Moabit district.
According to the police, emergency services responded quickly to the scene after multiple students complained of respiratory issues. The city’s fire department confirmed that 37 children were affected, with seven requiring medical treatment. One child was taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
In total, around 400 students were evacuated from the school as officials worked to assess the situation. The authorities believe the gas may have been released in a hallway, but they have not yet confirmed the type of gas or the exact cause of the incident.
Berlin police reported on social media that the school building has been ventilated and stated, "Currently there is no longer any danger." The situation is still under investigation as officials seek to determine what led to the release of the gas and ensure the safety of the students and staff.
