Best Friend of Minnesota Lawmaker Assassination Suspect Shares Chilling Final Text

A chilling situation unfolded in Minnesota over the weekend when Vance Boelter, a suspect in the shooting deaths of a former state representative and her husband, sent a haunting text to his friends. Just hours after the violence, he reached out to his best friend, David Carlson, with a message that hinted at his impending fate.

Carlson received the text around 6 a.m. on Saturday, shortly after the tragic events where former Democratic state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband were killed, and Sen. John Hoffman and his wife were shot. In the message, Boelter expressed love for his friends and suggested he might not be around much longer. He wrote, “I made some choices, and you guys don’t know anything about this, but I’m going to be gone for a while. May be dead shortly, so I just want to let you know I love you guys both and I wish it hadn’t gone this way.”

Fearing for his friend’s safety, Carlson quickly called the authorities. He was shocked to learn that Boelter, whom he had known since childhood, could be involved in such horrific acts. Carlson described Boelter as not being a hateful person but acknowledged that he needed help.

Reports indicate that Boelter, 57, had been struggling financially and was involved in several business ventures, including a security company. Carlson suggested that the pressure of his circumstances might have driven Boelter to make drastic decisions. He noted that Boelter, despite having once worked as a political appointee for the state’s Democratic governor, had voted for Donald Trump and had mixed feelings about local politics.

The violence began early Saturday morning when police were called to Hoffman’s home at 2:08 a.m., followed by a response to Hortman’s residence at 3:35 a.m. Officers encountered Boelter, leading to an exchange of gunfire. He is currently at large and considered armed and dangerous, prompting warnings to the public.

Carlson shared that Boelter had lived part-time in North Minneapolis and was not present when police executed a search warrant at his home. The community is left reeling from the shocking events, and many are left wondering what could have led to such a tragic outcome.
