A tragic accident occurred in Brooklyn on Friday evening when a 49-year-old man was struck and killed by an e-bike while crossing the street. The victim, identified as Luis Cruz, was walking across Franklin Street in Greenpoint around 7:45 p.m. when the incident happened.
Witnesses reported that Cruz suffered severe head injuries from the collision. He was quickly rushed to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving.
The rider of the e-bike remained at the scene and was not arrested or charged, as police stated that no criminal activity is suspected. Following the accident, Franklin Street was closed for several hours as investigators worked to gather details about the incident.
Cruz lived in the nearby neighborhood of Williamsburg, and the news of his death has left the community in shock. As e-bikes become more common in urban areas, this incident raises concerns about pedestrian safety and the risks associated with these vehicles on busy streets.
