The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has launched a new immigration enforcement operation in Charlotte, North Carolina, joining its ongoing efforts in Chicago. The move aims to address public safety concerns linked to criminal illegal immigrants in the city.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin emphasized the goal of the operation is to protect Americans from violent crimes committed by illegal aliens. "Americans should live without fear of violent criminal illegals hurting them, their families, or their neighbors," she said. McLaughlin added that the effort is a response to what she described as sanctuary policies that, in her view, fail to keep communities safe.
The crackdown, called “Operation Charlotte’s Web,” was confirmed by Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden. Though the sheriff’s office has been informed and coordinated with DHS, McFadden noted his department is not directly participating in the operation.
Charlotte has faced increased scrutiny after a tragic stabbing on its public transit system in September. Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska was fatally stabbed by Decarlos Brown Jr., a repeat violent offender who had been released from jail multiple times despite his record. This incident brought national attention to concerns over crime and enforcement in the city.
Customs and Border Patrol chief Gregory Bovino has been spotted leading the new enforcement push in Charlotte on behalf of the Trump administration. Videos showing federal officers detaining illegal immigrants in the city have started circulating online, highlighting the active nature of the operation.
This latest move by DHS reflects the administration’s tough stance on illegal immigration and its impact on local communities. While the federal government steps up enforcement efforts, local law enforcement in Charlotte seems to be taking a more hands-off approach in this particular campaign.
For ongoing updates and reports, local residents are watching closely as the operation unfolds and the city responds to concerns about crime linked to illegal immigration.
