Donald Trump recently expressed his disappointment in Elon Musk, describing the tech mogul as being “off the rails.” This comment came as Musk considers launching a new third political party, a move Trump believes is misguided and likely to create chaos within the political landscape.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that he feels saddened to see Musk’s current path. He warned that attempts to establish a third party in the U.S. have historically failed and would only lead to disruption. Trump emphasized that the political system is not designed to accommodate third parties effectively.
The former president linked Musk’s frustration to the recent “One Big, Beautiful Bill,” which included cuts to electric vehicle tax credits and eliminated the electric vehicle mandate. Trump noted that Musk had previously supported the idea of removing federal backing for electric vehicles. He recalled a conversation where Musk endorsed him, seemingly aware that Trump planned to terminate the electric vehicle mandate, which Trump found surprising.
Musk, on the other hand, has voiced his concerns about the bill’s overall cost rather than just its impact on electric vehicle incentives. He criticized the bill for containing excessive spending, suggesting that it is filled with “disgusting pork” while the oil and gas subsidies remain untouched.
Additionally, Trump mentioned his decision to withdraw the nomination of Jared Isaacman, a friend of Musk’s, for a position at NASA. Trump explained that he found it inappropriate for someone closely tied to Musk to lead an agency that collaborates with SpaceX.
Overall, Trump’s comments reflect a significant rift between him and Musk, who were once seen as allies. As Musk explores new political avenues, Trump warns that such efforts could lead to more confusion and division in an already polarized political environment.
