A Georgia man was arrested by the FBI for making threats against former President Donald Trump and Tulsi Gabbard, the former Director of National Intelligence. The suspect, 25-year-old Aliakbar Mohammed Amin, was taken into custody on Friday night in Lilburn, a suburb of Atlanta.
According to reports, a firearm was seized from Amin at the time of his arrest. The FBI has stated that it takes threats seriously and will ensure that those responsible are held accountable. They plan to release more details about the threats next week.
This arrest comes shortly after CNN downplayed credible threats against Gabbard, suggesting that her efforts to keep her Texas address private were part of a scheme to commit voter fraud. Gabbard’s team has expressed outrage at CNN, claiming that the network’s actions put her safety at risk. Her deputy chief of staff, Alexa Henning, stated that they had informed CNN about the serious threats against Gabbard and her family before the story was published.
Gabbard, who has previously served as a Democrat but has since aligned herself with Trump, has faced significant backlash from some on the left. Her office explained that declaring her Texas property as a “homestead” was a legal move to protect her address due to ongoing threats.
In a related incident, a man in Pennsylvania named Shawn Monper was arrested for threatening to assassinate Trump in a YouTube post. He had called for violence against Trump and others associated with his administration, which was flagged to authorities by Google.
As tensions rise around political figures like Trump and Gabbard, the FBI’s recent actions underscore the seriousness of threats made against public officials.
