Gunman Attacks Catholic School in Minneapolis, Multiple Children Dead

Law enforcement responded to a tragic shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis on Wednesday morning. The incident unfolded during the school’s Mass, which was attended by students. Reports indicate that several children were shot, and emergency dispatch audio suggested there were at least 20 victims.

Authorities confirmed that the suspected gunman is dead, and there is no longer an active threat to the community. The Department of Justice reported two fatalities and 20 injuries, with five children currently receiving medical treatment.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as police and emergency services rushed to the location. A man dressed in black and armed with a rifle was reported to be the shooter. The Richfield Police Department, which is nearby, stated that they were responding to multiple victims and had requested a Mass Casualty Response. Fire crews were also called in to assist.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz expressed his sorrow over the incident, noting that the shooting occurred during the school’s third day of the new academic year. He stated that he had been briefed on the situation and was praying for the affected children and teachers.

The shooting was first reported at 8:27 a.m. local time, and more than 65 police units arrived at the scene. Annunciation Catholic School serves students from kindergarten through eighth grade, and the Mass typically takes place at 8:15 a.m. on Wednesdays.

President Donald Trump also commented on the incident, stating he had been briefed and that the FBI was on the scene. He urged people to pray for those involved in this tragic event.

As the situation develops, the community is left grappling with the aftermath of this violence. The school and surrounding area are now secure, but the impact of this day will be felt for a long time to come.
