During a recent Atlanta Hawks game, a fan suffered a serious injury while participating in a contest. The incident took place during a timeout in the Hawks’ game against the Portland Trail Blazers, which ended with a score of 127-113 in favor of the Trail Blazers.
The fan was involved in a tic-tac-toe-themed competition at State Farm Arena. As he attempted to make a layup, he appeared to slip and fell to the ground, immediately grabbing his left knee. Footage from the arena’s scoreboard showed the alarming moment when he went down.
Medical staff quickly responded to the scene. Reports confirmed that a wheelchair and then a stretcher were brought out to assist the injured fan. A second video posted online showed him being placed on a stretcher by medical personnel, while the TV broadcast captured the aftermath of the incident. Hawks players and fans applauded as he was taken off the court, showing their support.
Interestingly, the fan who was competing against the injured man continued to play even after the incident, which added an unusual twist to the situation. Arena hostess Shamea Morton eventually intervened, urging the other participant to stop and check on the injured fan. "Can you just wait? Can you just be kind and come over here with me and check on James?" she said, referring to the injured fan.
The contest was meant to be a fun activity, where participants would race to score baskets and place tiles on a large board in an attempt to win the game. However, the unexpected injury shifted the focus of the event.
