On Thursday, Vice President JD Vance responded sharply to former President Joe Biden’s criticism of the Trump administration’s handling of the Ukraine-Russia conflict. Biden had recently told the BBC that a controversial meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was "beneath America." He also described Trump’s approach to Russia as “modern-day appeasement.”
Vance, speaking on Fox News with anchor Martha MacCallum, pointed out that under Biden’s leadership, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. He questioned Biden’s credibility on foreign policy, saying, "If we wanted to take advice from anybody on foreign policy, especially in Europe, it would not be Joe Biden." Vance expressed his disdain for Biden’s comments, suggesting that the current administration’s foreign policy has been a disaster.
He further added that if the U.S. simply reversed Biden’s policies, it could lead to a much more successful foreign policy. Vance joked that Biden could spend his time relaxing on the beach while his administration focuses on fixing the issues created during Biden’s term.
This isn’t the first time Vance has used a dismissive tone in political discussions. He previously shrugged off questions about Afghan refugees, saying, “I don’t really care.”
Meanwhile, Trump, who recently signed a minerals agreement with Ukraine, updated the public on his administration’s peace efforts. He called for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, emphasizing the need for accountability in the negotiations. Trump expressed concern over the ongoing loss of young soldiers and reiterated his commitment to achieving lasting peace in the region.
As tensions continue in Eastern Europe, both Vance and Trump are making their positions clear, highlighting a stark contrast between their approach and that of the current administration.
