Justin Verlander and Kate Upton Celebrate the Arrival of Their Second Child

Justin Verlander and Kate Upton have welcomed their second child, a son named Bellamy Brooks Verlander. The couple’s representative confirmed the news, stating that Bellamy was born on Thursday. Verlander, who plays for the San Francisco Giants, was placed on paternity leave ahead of the team’s game against the Boston Red Sox on Friday.

The couple first sparked pregnancy rumors back in January when they were spotted together on the beach. Verlander and Upton have been together since 2014 and married three years later in Tuscany, Italy. They welcomed their first child, a daughter named Genevieve, in November 2018.

At 41 years old, Verlander is the oldest active player in Major League Baseball and is currently in his 20th season. Despite a challenging start to the 2025 season, he has made 11 appearances but has yet to secure a win, holding a 4.45 ERA with 47 strikeouts in 56⅔ innings pitched. His most recent outing was against the Cleveland Guardians, where he allowed three earned runs in 4⅔ innings.

Verlander signed a one-year, $15 million contract with the Giants in January. He has expressed that this season has been mentally challenging as he seeks to regain his form after a recent injury. As he embraces fatherhood once again, Verlander will be balancing his responsibilities at home with his career on the field.
