King Charles Addresses Italys Parliament in Joint Session

King Charles made history by addressing both houses of Italy’s parliament during his state visit. This marks the first time a British monarch has delivered a speech to the Italian Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Republic.

The King is in Italy to celebrate his 20th wedding anniversary with Queen Camilla. On Wednesday, he met with Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, where they discussed various topics. Later, he attended a performance of Shakespeare’s Othello, which was presented in Italian.

Upon arriving at the Villa Doria Pamphili, Charles received a warm welcome, complete with a guard of honour and a red carpet. He and Prime Minister Meloni appeared at ease as they posed for photographs together.

Meanwhile, Queen Camilla visited the Istituto Comprensivo Alessandro Manzoni school in Rome, where she was greeted by children waving Union flags. During her visit, she interacted with students and teachers, participated in an English lesson, and presented diplomas to winners of a competition celebrating the 80th anniversary of the British Council.

Later in the evening, the King and Queen will attend a state banquet in Rome, where they are expected to meet prominent figures from Italian society. Their visit highlights the strong ties between the United Kingdom and Italy, showcasing both diplomatic and cultural connections. Charles and Camilla’s marriage, which began in their early 20s, has been a significant part of their public lives, and this visit marks another chapter in their ongoing relationship with Italy.
