This win marks their second consecutive title and the sixth in the program’s history. The 22-year-old gymnast, who has become a social media sensation with 5.3 million followers, shared the excitement of the day on her Instagram Stories, giving fans a glimpse of the confetti-filled celebrations.
Dunne posted photos showing her and her teammates proudly displaying their championship trophy, captioning one with “Purple reign 4eva.” LSU achieved a program-best score of 198.200, outpacing competitors Oklahoma and Florida, who scored 197.925 and 197.825, respectively. Despite being a key member of last year’s national championship team, Dunne was not included in the lineup for this event due to a knee injury she has been dealing with, specifically an avulsion fracture of her patella.
In her Instagram Story, she expressed her disappointment about missing the opportunity to compete on senior night, thanking her fans for their support. “It absolutely breaks my heart to not get the opportunity to compete in the PMAC one last time,” she wrote.
Dunne’s return to LSU for her fifth and final year was motivated by her rekindled passion for gymnastics. She mentioned that she rediscovered her love for the sport last year, which played a significant role in her decision to come back.
