Mother of British Woman Discovered Dead in Bangkok Hotel Claims Police Are Engaging in a Cover-Up

The mother of a British woman found dead in a Bangkok hotel has accused Thai police of trying to cover up the circumstances surrounding her daughter’s death. Rebecca Turner, 36, and her boyfriend Sam Melnick were discovered on March 15 last year, lying on the floor of their hotel room.

An inquest revealed that the couple had unknowingly consumed a dangerous mix of drugs. Ms. Turner’s parents, who live in Bexhill-on-Sea, Sussex, stated that she believed she was taking cocaine the night before her death. However, the substances she ingested included morphine, codeine, and other drugs.

Anita Turner, Rebecca’s mother, has made three trips to Thailand since her daughter’s passing and plans to return next month. She has been vocal about her concerns regarding drug use abroad and has criticized the Thai police for their handling of the investigation. Anita expressed frustration, stating, "They promised me details in six months’ time, and that was about eight months ago. I’m still waiting."

She mentioned a text message from Rebecca discussing cocaine, emphasizing that her daughter thought it was safe. During her visits to Thailand, Anita has continued the charity work that Rebecca started.

Anita described her daughter as lively and full of joy, always smiling and having fun. The coroner, Laura Bradford, concluded that Rebecca’s death was drug-related, stating that there was no evidence to suggest she intended to take her own life. Family members noted that Rebecca’s mental health was stable and her mood was good prior to her death.

Sky News has reached out to the Royal Thai national police and the Thai embassy for comments on the matter.
