"Nearly 60 Dead in Israeli Strikes, Gaza Health Officials Report: It Felt Like Earthquakes"

Almost 60 people have died in fresh Israeli airstrikes in Gaza, according to health officials in the region. Reports from residents describe heavy bombardments, leading to widespread fear and displacement. The Israeli military has issued evacuation orders for large areas in northern Gaza, pushing many families to flee south.

Israeli officials are currently in Washington, trying to negotiate a ceasefire with the help of the Trump administration. Amid the ongoing violence, residents like Salah, a father from Gaza City, express their despair. He said, "We hear about a ceasefire, but on the ground, we see death and hear explosions." He described the situation as chaotic, with bombings destroying homes and schools.

Health authorities report that among the recent casualties, 10 people were killed in the Zeitoun neighborhood, while at least 13 died southwest of Gaza City. Medics noted that many of the victims were struck by gunfire, but residents also mentioned an airstrike in the area. In another tragic incident, 20 people, including women and children, were killed when an airstrike hit a beachfront café in Gaza City.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have been targeting Hamas militants in northern Gaza, particularly in Gaza City itself. Former President Donald Trump has called for a ceasefire, urging both sides to come to an agreement and secure the release of hostages. The death toll in Gaza has reportedly reached 56,500, according to Hamas-run authorities.

Despite talks of a ceasefire, many Palestinians remain skeptical. Some feel that promises of peace have not been fulfilled in the past. One resident, Abdel Hadi al Hour, voiced his frustration, saying, "They promised to stop the war if hostages were released, but the fighting continues."

The conflict began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched attacks in Israel, resulting in significant casualties and taking hostages. An eight-week ceasefire was briefly established during Joe Biden’s presidency but ended when hostilities resumed in March.

As the conflict continues, Israeli airstrikes have persisted, with recent attacks claiming more lives. An airstrike in the Jabaliya al Nazla area killed at least 15 people, many of whom were displaced individuals seeking shelter.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that the ongoing conflict presents opportunities, particularly in rescuing hostages and addressing the situation in Gaza. He believes that Israel can achieve both goals: defeating Hamas and ensuring the safety of hostages.

Hamas has indicated a willingness to free all hostages in exchange for a complete withdrawal of Israeli troops and an end to the war. However, Israel has rejected this offer, insisting that Hamas must surrender and disarm before any ceasefire can be considered.

As the situation evolves, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza deepens, and the search for peace remains elusive.
