Over 30 Dead in Bolivia Bus Accident – Second Fatal Collision in Just Days

A tragic accident occurred in southern Bolivia when a truck crashed into a bus, resulting in the deaths of at least 31 people. This incident took place on a highway connecting Oruro, a city in the Altiplano region, to Potosi, a well-known mining town. The collision happened on a Monday, just two days after another bus crash in the same area that claimed 37 lives.

According to police reports, the bus rolled approximately 500 meters down a ravine following the impact. Emergency services responded quickly, but sadly, many lives were lost. Among the deceased were both men and women, and 22 additional people suffered injuries. The driver of the truck has been arrested, and authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash.

Bolivia’s President Luis Arce expressed his condolences on social media, urging for a thorough investigation to determine responsibility for the accident. He shared heartfelt wishes for strength to the families affected by this tragedy.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in Bolivia. The country is known for its treacherous and poorly maintained roads, which contribute to a high number of traffic fatalities each year. In fact, an average of 1,400 people die in traffic accidents annually in Bolivia.

Just a few days before this crash, another devastating incident involved two buses colliding, resulting in over 30 deaths. The frequency of such tragic events raises questions about transportation safety standards and enforcement in the region. As investigations continue, the hope is that lessons will be learned to prevent future tragedies.
