Panic Escalates in Sudans Wartime Capital Amidst Ongoing Drone Strikes

Dark smoke has been rising over Port Sudan for the past two days, causing alarm among residents. This city is now a refuge for tens of thousands of people fleeing the ongoing conflict in Sudan, which has been raging for two years between the national army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The latest attacks by the RSF have targeted key infrastructure in Port Sudan, marking the second strike in just 24 hours. These assaults are believed to involve drone strikes aimed at military sites across the country. Recently, a drone attack damaged the airport in Port Sudan, specifically hitting a weapons depot near the military airbase. As a result, flights were halted at the only international airport still operational in Sudan.

This surge in drone strikes represents a serious escalation in the conflict, which has already led to a massive humanitarian crisis. The RSF has intensified its attacks since the army regained control of Khartoum in late March. Just last month, a drone strike in Atbara killed at least 12 civilians, including children, as it targeted a shelter for displaced people.

The situation in Port Sudan is dire, with many residents feeling a growing sense of panic. The city, once a place of safety, is now under threat as the fighting continues to spread. The international community is watching closely, as the violence has created one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world.
