Podcast host Sam Fragoso recently interviewed Senator Elizabeth Warren on his show "Talk Easy," and the conversation took a tense turn. Fragoso pressed Warren on her past comments defending President Joe Biden’s mental fitness, which seemed to make her uncomfortable.
In the episode, which is highlighted on Fragoso’s website, Warren spoke about her commitment to working families and the future of the Democratic Party. However, Fragoso focused on her statements regarding Biden’s mental acuity, asking her if she regretted saying he was sharp and mentally fit up until July of last year.
Warren hesitated before responding, stating, “I said what I believed to be true.” When Fragoso asked if she thought Biden was as sharp as she was, she paused and laughed nervously. She insisted that she had not seen any decline in Biden’s mental state at that time.
Fragoso continued to challenge her, asking if she truly believed there was no decline from Biden’s performance in 2021 to that in 2024. Warren maintained her stance, saying she had seen him perform well in meetings and live events. However, Fragoso pointed out that being "on his feet" or "speaking in sentences" isn’t necessarily high praise.
Warren eventually conceded that Fragoso’s point was fair. This exchange highlighted a broader issue within the Democratic Party, where many party members and media figures had previously defended Biden against claims of cognitive decline. Some of these individuals have since acknowledged Biden’s struggles, despite having supported him during his campaign.
The interview has sparked discussions about Biden’s fitness for office as he heads into the 2024 election, raising questions about the party’s support and the narrative surrounding his leadership.
