A suspect was apprehended near Kuyrkendall Stadium after an incident that raised concerns about safety. The situation unfolded on the north end of the stadium, where a police officer encountered the individual near a chain link fence.
The officer instructed the suspect to keep his hands raised and asked if he had any weapons. The suspect denied having any weapons and was cooperative as he walked along the fence. During this time, he made a comment, stating, “I was protecting myself,” even though the officer had not asked him about the incident yet. As they continued, the suspect mentioned that someone had "put his hands on me."
After reaching an area where the fence opened, the officer detained the suspect by placing him in handcuffs and having him sit on the ground. Officer A. Ricci arrived shortly thereafter. The officer conducted another pat down and searched the suspect after receiving his consent, but no weapons were found.
While sitting on the ground, the suspect made a surprising admission, saying, “I’m not alleged, I did it.” This statement indicated a level of acknowledgment about his involvement in the incident. As the officers escorted him to Officer Ricci’s patrol vehicle, the suspect appeared emotional and repeated that someone had put their hands on him.
Once in the patrol car, the officer noticed fresh blood on the suspect’s left middle finger. To ensure proper documentation, he verbally noted the blood for the Body Worn Camera. The suspect also expressed concern, asking if the other person involved would be okay.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The situation highlights the complexities of personal safety and interactions that can escalate quickly.
