Mike Waltz has been removed from his role as national security advisor after ongoing disagreements with the White House, particularly regarding the approach to Iran. This news comes from a report by the Washington Post.
Sources indicate that tensions reached a breaking point when Waltz added Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of the Atlantic, to a private chat that contained sensitive national security information. This action was seen as a major breach of trust.
Waltz’s close ties with Israeli officials and his strong support for military action contrasted sharply with President Donald Trump’s preference for diplomatic solutions. One Trump adviser highlighted the seriousness of Waltz’s actions, comparing them to a hypothetical situation where a high-ranking official undermines the president by working with foreign leaders.
Waltz is currently nominated to be the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. In the meantime, Secretary of State Marco Rubio will step in as the acting national security advisor.
