Shane Lowry expressed his frustration after finishing his third round at The Masters on Saturday. The 38-year-old golfer made it clear he wasn’t interested in discussing Rory McIlroy during his post-round interview. Lowry snapped at reporters, saying, “No. No, I’m not going to stand here and talk about Rory for 10 minutes. I’m trying to win the tournament, as well.”
Despite a strong start, Lowry ended his round with a disappointing score of 72, finishing with bogeys on the 17th and 18th holes. He admitted that he felt a mix of pain and disappointment, especially after what he described as a great day on the course. “I enjoyed every bit of today and then I hit that putt on 17 and I couldn’t believe it,” he said. “I thought I did great holing one back and then just hit a very poor tee shot on 18.”
Lowry also suggested that golfers should have more time to gather their thoughts before speaking with the media after their rounds. “I think I need a half an hour now to sit there and gather my thoughts,” he explained. “I can’t be coming to talk to you guys straight away. It shouldn’t be happening. I don’t agree with it.”
Despite his frustration, Lowry acknowledged the excitement surrounding McIlroy’s performance. He noted the incredible atmosphere on the course, mentioning that the roars from the crowd were tough to ignore as McIlroy made his charge.
As he looks ahead to the final round, Lowry is tied for sixth at 5-under par, seven shots behind McIlroy, who is leading the tournament. He remains hopeful, stating, “If I play the way I can play, I’ll be there or thereabouts tomorrow.” The final round promises to be an exciting conclusion to the prestigious tournament at Augusta National Golf Club.
