A Florida college student is on trial for the death of her newborn daughter. Brianne Moore, who was just 19 at the time, gave birth in her dorm bathroom in April 2024 and later disposed of the baby’s body in a trash bin.
Moore claims she was unaware of her pregnancy and insists she did not harm her baby. She stated that the child died naturally. However, a medical examiner determined that the baby died from asphyxia due to compression of the torso, ruling the death a homicide.
Text messages from seven months before the birth have raised eyebrows. In conversations with a friend named Quasim, Moore referred to a “plan C” for birth control, which she described as her “favorite” option. This plan involved killing the child, a statement that has sparked controversy during the trial.
Moore’s attorney, Jonah Dickstein, argues that the messages were taken out of context and were part of a broader discussion about abortion laws. He also clarified that Quasim is not the father of the baby.
On the day of the birth, Moore reported that her water broke unexpectedly. After delivering the baby in the bathroom, she said she laid the child down and took a shower. When she checked on the baby and found no movement or heartbeat, she became frightened. Moore then wrapped the baby in a towel and, after taking a nap, placed the child in a dumpster outside her dorm at MaKay Hall.
Moore faces serious charges, including aggravated manslaughter of a child, child neglect, failure to report a death, and unlawful storage of human remains. If convicted, she could spend up to 30 years in prison. Her trial has been postponed until March, as the case continues to unfold.
