Tributes Honored for Two Teenagers Who Lost Their Lives Off the Irish Coast

Two teenage boys tragically lost their lives after getting into trouble in the sea off the coast of Donegal. Matt Sibanda, 18, and Emmanuel Familola, 16, were reportedly playing football when they went into the water to retrieve a ball on Saturday.

Emergency services received calls around 4 PM about three young men in distress off Buncrana. A rescue operation was quickly launched. Two of the boys were rescued and taken to Letterkenny University Hospital, where one of them died early Sunday morning. The body of the other boy was recovered later that evening.

Scoil Mhuire Buncrana, where Emmanuel was a student, expressed deep sorrow over his passing. They described him as a warm and kind individual who was well-loved by both staff and students. The school community is heartbroken, and their thoughts are with Emmanuel’s family during this difficult time.

Crana College, where Matt studied, also shared their condolences. They confirmed his passing and offered support to his family, who are dealing with this unimaginable loss.

The Buncrana community came together for a prayer vigil at St Mary’s Oratory on Sunday evening to honor the boys. A local leader reflected on the sudden shift from a beautiful day to a moment of profound grief for the families involved.

Sinn Fein councillor Jack Murray commented on the incident, noting how the boys acted like any kids would, running into the water after a ball. He expressed how heartbreaking it is that such a simple childhood moment ended in tragedy.

As the community mourns, support for the families affected is pouring in, highlighting the impact of this heartbreaking event.
