Tensions flared between Israel, Iran, and the United States this week after a series of missile strikes and accusations of ceasefire violations. The conflict escalated on Tuesday morning, shortly before a ceasefire was set to take effect.
Just hours before the ceasefire, Iran launched a wave of ballistic missiles targeting Israel. One missile hit an apartment building in Beersheba, killing at least seven people and injuring 86 others. This attack highlighted Iran’s strategy of targeting civilian areas, a tactic that has drawn widespread condemnation. Fortunately, these missiles either missed their targets or were intercepted, causing no additional casualties.
The situation prompted a strong reaction from U.S. President Donald Trump. Speaking on Truth Social, he expressed frustration over both nations’ actions during the ceasefire. Trump emphasized that both sides violated the agreement, expressing particular displeasure at Israel’s early response after the ceasefire was announced. He stated, “I’m not happy with Israel. You don’t go out in the first hour and just drop everything you have on them.”
In a heated exchange with reporters, Trump underscored the need for both countries to cease hostilities, stating, “We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what they’re doing.” His remarks sparked mixed reactions, with some supporting his call for restraint and others criticizing his stance.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office later clarified that Israel had conducted a significant attack in Tehran just before the ceasefire. They reported that Israel targeted Iranian regime sites and eliminated several personnel from the Basij and Iranian security forces. Following the missile attacks from Iran, Israel retaliated by destroying a radar installation near Tehran but refrained from further strikes after discussions with President Trump.
Despite Iran’s insistence on restoring its nuclear program, Trump vowed that Iran would not be allowed to rebuild its nuclear facilities. This comes amid Iran’s claims that it is assessing the damage from Israel’s military actions and plans to continue its nuclear production.
