Trump Targets IRS Reform to Challenge George Soros and Progressive Donor Networks

A significant change is coming to the IRS. A key adviser in the Treasury Department is working on plans to overhaul the agency’s criminal investigation division. This move aims to make it easier for the Trump administration to investigate groups they view as leftist. According to The Wall Street Journal, the administration has already identified targets for investigation, including prominent Democratic donors.

Gary Shapley, who advises Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, is reportedly set to replace Guy Ficco, the current head of the IRS’s investigative unit. This shift is seen as a way to align the division more closely with Trump’s agenda. The plans would enable IRS investigators to focus on left-leaning organizations and major Democratic contributors, such as George Soros.

President Trump has instructed Bessent, who is also acting as the IRS commissioner, to look into left-wing groups that he believes are funding protests against his administration. Trump has even suggested that Soros and his son, Alex, should face charges under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act due to their alleged support for violent protests across the country.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed his determination to combat what he calls the "lunatics" trying to disrupt America. He stated that Soros and his associates have caused significant harm and warned them that they are being watched.

Bessent emphasized that the Treasury Department is prioritizing the targeting of what he calls "violent domestic networks." He compared this initiative to the U.S. government’s response to terrorist financing after the September 11 attacks. The IRS, as part of the Treasury Department, is expected to follow the money trail behind these groups.

During a recent appearance on a special edition of “The Charlie Kirk Show,” Bessent discussed the rise of anti-Israel protests in the U.S. following a major attack on Israel two years ago. He stated that many of these protests are funded by non-profits and that the administration is committed to stopping this financial support.

Bessent mentioned that the tragic death of Charlie Kirk has spurred the department to compile lists of networks funding leftist violence. He expressed a commitment to honoring Kirk’s memory and ensuring safety while promoting free speech for all sides.

When asked about the proposed changes to the IRS, Shapley did not provide specific details but expressed gratitude for his role in reforming the agency. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Treasury Department maintained that the IRS’s main focus remains on collections and customer service.

The Daily Wire has reached out to the White House for comments regarding these developments. As the situation unfolds, the implications of these changes could have significant effects on how the IRS operates and targets various groups in the future.
