Trump Urges Republicans to Support Big Beautiful Bill and Capitalize on Key Legislative Opportunity

President Donald Trump is urging Senate Republicans to support his ambitious “One Big, Beautiful Bill” as they face a crucial vote. This proposed legislation aims to secure funding for border security and make his 2017 tax cuts permanent. Trump expressed confidence that the bill would pass, despite some Republican senators hesitating to back it.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday morning, Trump emphasized the bill’s significance, claiming it would provide the largest tax cuts and border security measures in history. He warned that failing to pass the bill could result in a substantial tax increase of 68%. His comments came after he posted on Truth Social, highlighting the bill’s potential benefits, including job creation and military funding.

Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso from Wyoming announced that a vote on the full bill was expected on Tuesday morning, following a series of 45 amendment votes that took place overnight. However, some Republican senators, including Thom Tillis from North Carolina and Rand Paul from Kentucky, have indicated they will not support the spending package. Senators Lisa Murkowski from Alaska and Susan Collins from Maine are also uncertain about their votes. Murkowski has been in discussions with GOP leadership to find a way to secure her support.

When asked about what could sway Murkowski, Trump admitted he was unsure but noted that Alaska had benefited greatly during his presidency. He expressed a desire for the bill to be passed by the Fourth of July, though he acknowledged that meeting this deadline might be challenging.

The bill includes several key provisions, such as imposing work requirements on certain adults to qualify for welfare programs, eliminating taxes on tips and overtime, cutting funding for Planned Parenthood for a year, and increasing funding for border security. Notably, a provision that would have halted all federal funding for transgender procedures was removed by the Senate Parliamentarian.

As the Senate prepares for the vote, the outcome remains uncertain, with the potential for a tie if three Republican senators oppose the bill. The coming hours will be critical as Trump and GOP leaders work to rally support for this significant legislative effort.
