Trumps Border Czar Raises Alarm Over Biden-Era Gotaways Amid Iranian Sleeper Cell Fears

In a recent interview, former Trump administration official Tom Homan raised serious concerns about national security at the U.S.-Mexico border. He described the situation as the “biggest national security vulnerability this country’s ever seen,” particularly pointing to the number of Iranian nationals who crossed the border illegally during President Biden’s term.

Homan, who served as the Border Czar under Trump, discussed the issue on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo. He highlighted that under Biden, 1,272 Iranian nationals were released into the U.S. after entering illegally. In contrast, he noted that there were no such releases during Trump’s presidency.

Homan emphasized that during Trump’s administration, the border was more secure than ever, stating, “We have the most secure border in my lifetime.” He attributed this security to strong leadership and policies that prevented unauthorized crossings and releases. However, he expressed alarm over the more than 10 million people who crossed the border under Biden, including over 2 million “gotaways” — individuals who entered the U.S. and evaded capture.

Homan’s primary worry is that the identities and intentions of these gotaways remain unknown. He pointed out that Border Patrol agents are overwhelmed, leading to a significant number of people slipping through undetected. He mentioned the discovery of items like prayer mats and identification from countries such as Iran and Syria near the border, suggesting that some of these individuals may pose a security threat.

While acknowledging that the Trump administration also did not have a complete picture of where all the gotaways ended up, Homan expressed confidence in the current leadership of the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security, contrasting it with the previous administration. He believes that the focus on national security threats has improved under Trump’s leadership.

Homan concluded by stressing the importance of addressing these security risks, stating that it would be naive to think that no terrorists have crossed the border. He praised Trump for prioritizing national security and public safety during his presidency.

This discussion comes amid heightened tensions internationally, particularly following recent military actions involving Iran. As the debate over border security continues, Homan’s comments highlight the ongoing concerns surrounding immigration policies and national safety.
