UK Issues Travel Warning Against All Visits to Israel

The government is urging people to avoid traveling to Israel due to ongoing missile exchanges with Iran. The situation has escalated, prompting the Foreign Office to advise against all but essential travel to most parts of Israel, marking a significant change in travel guidance.

Previously, only specific areas like Gaza, the West Bank, and the Golan Heights were labeled as red zones, indicating a high risk for travelers. Now, the entire country has been upgraded to this warning level, reflecting the seriousness of the current conflict.

This shift in travel advice comes after intense missile strikes from Iran following Israeli attacks. Just recently, Israel’s airspace was closed, and its national airline, El Al, announced the cancellation of flights to various European cities, as well as Tokyo and Moscow, until June 23. This makes it less likely for travelers to attempt to reach Israel during this turbulent time.

The health ministry in Israel reported that over the weekend, 12 people were killed in missile strikes, bringing the total to 15 fatalities since Friday. Additionally, around 385 individuals were hospitalized with injuries. Iran has stated that many of the casualties from Israeli strikes were civilians, including women and children, although they have not released their own casualty figures.

The UK government is responding by sending military assets, including fighter jets, to the Middle East. While officials have not confirmed if UK forces will be used to defend Israel, they have indicated that all options are on the table. This military support is viewed as a precautionary measure, with officials urging for de-escalation in the region.

As the situation continues to develop, the focus remains on the safety of civilians and finding a path to reduce tensions between Israel and Iran.
