White House Honors Major U.S. Car Manufacturer for $388 Million Megahub Development in Metro Detroit

Stellantis, a major player in the automotive industry, is making a significant investment in Michigan. The company has announced plans to build a new parts distribution facility in Wayne County, which will cost $388 million. This facility, referred to as a "megahub," will cover two million square feet and is set to open in 2027.

The new hub will feature advanced technology, including an automated storage system called AutoStore. This system uses robots to quickly and accurately retrieve and deliver parts. The goal is to improve efficiency in Stellantis’ Mopar parts operations. The facility is expected to create around 488 jobs, all of which will be union-represented, highlighting the company’s commitment to supporting union labor.

The White House has praised this investment, linking it to what they call the “TRUMP EFFECT.” Former President Donald Trump has long encouraged automakers to produce vehicles and parts in the U.S. His trade agreements have imposed tariffs on imports, which may have influenced Stellantis’ decision to invest domestically.

Stellantis is also consolidating its operations by selling other parts distribution centers in locations like Center Line, Marysville, and Milwaukee. Employees from these facilities will be relocated to the new megahub, streamlining operations and enhancing efficiency.

Darren Bradshaw, senior vice president of Mopar North America, expressed the company’s commitment to innovation and operational excellence with this investment. He emphasized that the megahub aims to create a faster and more reliable parts distribution network, ultimately benefiting customers.

This development reflects Stellantis’ strategy to modernize its operations and adapt to the changing landscape of the automotive industry. The move is not only a boost for Michigan’s economy but also a step towards a more efficient and tech-driven future for parts distribution in the automotive sector.
