Former President Donald Trump recently expressed doubts about Ukraine’s ability to withstand Russian aggression, even if the United States were to provide extensive support. In an interview on Fox News’ "Sunday Morning Futures," Trump defended his decision to reduce aid to Ukraine, stating, “Well, it may not survive anyway.”
These comments came as Polish President Andrzej Duda and other European leaders voiced concerns about the continent’s capacity to support Ukraine without U.S. involvement. Trump acknowledged the challenges, saying, “We have some weaknesses with Russia.” He noted the unexpected escalation of the conflict, remarking, “It was not going to happen — that war and it happened. So now we’re stuck with this mess.”
This is not the first time Trump has criticized U.S. support for Ukraine. Last week, CIA Director John Ratcliffe revealed that intelligence sharing with Ukraine has been largely halted. The Trump administration has also stopped providing aid to the country, raising alarms among U.S. and Ukrainian officials.
As the situation unfolds, Ukrainian and American officials are scheduled to meet in Saudi Arabia this week. The outcome of these discussions could be crucial for Ukraine’s ongoing struggle against Russian forces.
