Tom Homan, the former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, expressed his astonishment at the Trump administration’s success in reducing illegal immigration during a recent event in Texas. Speaking at the State Freedom Caucus Summit in Irving, Homan stated that illegal immigration had plummeted by 96% under President Trump. He praised the Border Patrol for their rapid efforts, saying they secured the southern border in just seven weeks.
Homan addressed a gathering of Republican lawmakers, emphasizing the importance of conservative governance. He recounted how Trump recruited him back into the administration after four years of what he described as record-high illegal border crossings under President Biden. Homan expressed his frustration with the current administration, claiming that the lax border policies were harmful and led to increased violence and exploitation, particularly against vulnerable individuals.
In a passionate speech, Homan criticized the Biden administration’s approach, labeling it as "bulls***" and suggesting that it was driven by a political agenda aimed at securing future Democratic voters. He went so far as to call this betrayal "treasonous."
Homan also highlighted the threat posed by Latin American drug cartels, stating they have caused more American deaths than any terrorist group or war. He vowed that under Trump’s leadership, there would be a strong crackdown on these cartels. His comments came shortly after a U.S. military operation targeting drug trafficking from Venezuela.
The summit drew conservative lawmakers from across the country, all advocating for policies that align with the Freedom Caucus’s goals. Homan’s remarks reflected a broader sentiment among attendees, who are focused on promoting conservative values in state legislatures.
